The warning was released by CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team). According to the alert, a major security flaw has been discovered in WhatsApp’s message response feature. Because of this problem, hackers can take advantage and gain illegal access to users’ phones, computers, or Mac devices. This means your private chats, personal photos, important files, and even bank details could be stolen.

CERT-In explained that hackers may send dangerous links, files, or special codes through WhatsApp messages. If a user clicks on these without being careful, their device can be easily hacked. Once the hacker enters the system, they can track activities, steal data, and misuse personal information.

Some older versions of WhatsApp are more at risk. These include:

iPhone WhatsApp versions older than 2.25.23.73
iOS WhatsApp Business versions older than 2.25.23.82
Mac WhatsApp versions older than 2.25.23.83

If you are using these older versions, your device may not be safe.

To protect users, WhatsApp has already released a new security update. CERT-In has strongly advised everyone to update their app immediately. This update fixes the security gap and helps prevent hackers from misusing the app.

Here is what users should do:
Open your App Store or Play Store.
Search for WhatsApp.
Click on the Update button.
Turn on automatic updates in your settings.

Apart from updating, users should also follow basic safety rules. Do not open links, photos, or videos from unknown people. Avoid downloading files that look suspicious. Never share your OTP, bank details, or personal passwords through WhatsApp messages.
