Good news for the people of Telangana. A new airport will be available soon. The green signal has been received from the center to take this forward.
The center has given the green signal for the construction of a brownfield airport at Mamunur in Warangal district. Work will begin soon.Flights will start operating from December this year.
In Telangana, flight services are currently available only from Shamshabad International Airport. While airports are available in three or four places in neighboring states, Telangana has only one airport so, with this, the Revanth Sarkar has decided to set up new airports in Telangana and It has proposed to build four new airports in Warangal, Kothagudem, Ramagundam and Adilabad and sent it to the Center.
In this, a key update has been received on Warangal Mamunur Airport. Giving all the permissions for the construction of this airport, Union Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu signed the relevant file on Friday to enable the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to start construction thus, a total of 949.14 acres of land is required for the construction of the airport in Mamunur, of which 696.14 acres have already been acquired. AAI has requested the state government to provide another 253 acres. The process of acquiring that land is currently in full swing.
Officials are working to operate flights from the Mamunur brownfield airport by December this year and with the green signal from the center, designs for the construction of the terminal will be prepared this month itself. They are planning to call tenders for the same. The target is to complete the first phase of work by December this year and operate flights to the capital city of Hyderabad and other prominent places in the south.
As per the instructions of CM Revanth Reddy, recently, the district in-charge minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, other ministers Konda Surekha, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and others conducted several reviews with officials on the progress of the airport works. They also made key suggestions to the AAI and state high officials on the work to be undertaken at the field level. If the airport becomes available, air connectivity facilities will improve for the people of the joint Karimnagar, Khammam and Nalgonda.
