Gambhir allegedly received two threatening emails on his email from a dubious Gmail account on April 22, 2025, which led to a serious security issue.
The threats were immediately filed with the Rajinder Nagar police station and the government has initiated a thorough investigation into the case. A police officer has confirmed that the emails are being scanned to track their source and culprits. The nightmarish episode comes after the ghastly terrorist bombing in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on the same day that killed 26 people, the majority of them tourists, raising alarm bells again.
This is not the first time that Gambhir has had his security breached. Even in 2022, the politician-cricketer had received threatening calls, which resulted in additional security being deployed. Since Gambhir’s profile is quite high in Indian cricket as also in politics, his safety will always be an issue of concern for the law enforcement authorities.
As the national team cricket team head coach, Gambhir’s duties do not just lie on the cricket pitch.
