OpenAI’s latest model, GPT-4o, has impressed researchers with its estimated IQ of around 155, placing it in the same range as exceptionally gifted humans. Anthropic’s Claude line has seen huge improvement over the years. Claude 2, launched in 2023, was tested with an IQ of approximately 82, but later models, like Claude 3, reported over 100 and subsequent versions could reach as high as 140. These hikes reflect tremendous advances in language understanding and cognitive modeling.
Developed by Google DeepMind, Gemini Ultra is one of the top-performing AI systems. With its performance on tests like MMLU, it does the best, which makes it a tough rival for high-level reasoning.
Before GPT-4o, the performance of GPT-4 was a benchmark level for language models with estimated IQs between 155. It was one of the most functional and capable models to date due to its strong performance across domains—law, coding, and mathematics.
Other proprietary AI models like GPT-4V have strengths in specific areas like visual reasoning. They are still no match for leading models, however, in generalized IQ-style tests. Industry observers note that, great as they are, the AIs of today are still no match for man’s adaptable intelligence.
