Zepto Introduces Free Delivery and Removes Handling Charges, But Minimum Order Value Must be

Zepto has just made a significant step forward. The quick commerce platform has eliminated all additional fees, including handling and surge charges. They want to be India’s most economical service. This step follows a $450 million funding round they raised a few weeks ago.

Presenting the “Zero Fees” Policy

Zepto is calling this the “All New Zepto Experience.” Customers will no longer pay handling fees. They have removed rain or surge charges altogether. Now delivery is free on orders greater than ₹99. The only fee now is ₹30 for small orders below ₹99. They have also removed the convenience fee for tobacco raised by the government.

A Direct Challenge in the Space

Zepto’s new fee model undercuts the competition in a bold way. They have now set the lowest delivery threshold. Competitors like Blinkit and Instamart have much higher fees for small orders. This change may trigger price competition in the space. Zepto is going directly on price and transparency.

Competition Comparison

To clarify, Blinkit charges ₹54 for a small order. This includes a delivery fee and handling fee. Swiggy Instamart can charge up to ₹65; this fee includes GST on top of the delivery fee. It is evident that Zepto now has the most aggressive pricing structure for small orders right now.

Supported by a Fresh Funding Round

It just happens that a recent funding round has helped fund this strategy. Zepto raised $450 million from investors, including CalPERS, one of the largest pension funds in the United States. The company’s valuation is now $7 billion. This capital allows Zepto to absorb these costs and compete fiercely.
