With brilliant acting and strong narrative, Selvamani Selvaraj’s latest film, Kaantha, by Dulquer Salmaan, is enchanting audiences. Many critics see Dulquer’s performance in the movie as among the best of his career. Against the backdrop of Tamil cinema from the 1950s, the film investigates an engaging story with Dulquer portraying TK Mahadevan, a teenage star of the day.
Dulquer was questioned about his cinema guru during a promotional event for Kaantha; this subject has started debates on social media. He admitted that Mammootty, whose impact is still unequaled, had always been his first guru. Beyond that, Dulquer views Ustad Hotel director Anwar Rasheed as a major mentor directing him even now.
Dulquer told Honest Townhall, “My first mentor was my father, and that hasn’t altered. Then there were my instructors at school and college. Director Anwar Rasheed then became my teacher. Still, I receive his feedback every time a trailer for a new movie is released. If he says, ‘It’s great, it will be a hit,’ that is all for me. I am aware that he is proud of every success of mine.”
Following his acknowledgement via the Netflix documentary series The Hunt for Veerappan, Kaantha marks Selvamony Selvaraj’s first full-length film. Apart from Dulquer as TK Mahadevan, Rana Daggubati is Police Officer Ayya and Bhagyashree Borse makes her debut as the leading lady, Kumari.
Made together by Dulquer’s Waeferer Films and Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media, along with Jom Varghese and Prashant Potluri, the movie is distributed in Kerala via Waeferer Films.
With its nostalgic setting, great performances, and enthralling plot, Kaantha has garnered interest from both critics and viewers, therefore confirming its status as a must-see movie.
