12A Railway Colony Review: Allari Naresh is back on the silver screen with 12A Railway Colony, promised to be a psychological horror-thriller that will rack the viewers’ minds with suspense and mystery from the foremost announcement date of the title. Yet even with a gripping setup, the film entered theatres with very little buzz due to low-key promotions. With Naresh yet again stepping out of his comfort zone of comedy, there was hope for something beyond just an ordinary story. The question remains: does the film live up to its claim of chills and tension?
The Story-The Plot
Karthik (Allari Naresh), one such youth from Warangal, lives with his friends in the 12A Railway Colony. Karthik works for a local politician, Tillu, who acts as a hindrance to Karthik and his group whenever his influence is in play. Things take a turn when Karthik is smitten by Aradhana (Kamakshi Bhaskar), a girl who seems equally interested before going MIA for days together.
As Karthik begins to search for her, he is caught in the shady dealings of Tillu. One night, after he took along some suspicious bags handed to him by Tillu, Karthik made a chilling discovery-Aradhana’s corpse was lying in his own house. The rest is all about how she was killed, by whom, and the resultant downward spiral of Karthik’s life-the crux of this mystery-thriller.
12A Railway Colony Review:
Struggling to hold together an ambitious layered psychological thriller, the screenplay, though, does not hold together in places. Halfway through the first chapter, and maybe even into the first half, there was some mild curiosity about the buildup, but never a strong gripping emotional engagement. From post-interval onwards, a very erratic posturing began to enter the narrative cluttered with unconnected sequences.
Two credible twists later, however, the film fizzles due to inconsistent writing, shallow character arcs, and an inability to build credible tension. Technically, it is about as lame as can be. Editing dooms this film to utter insignificance, no music enhances any so-called moments, and production standards exist on a very low plane. The idea had merit; execution, though, utterly kills any story to follow.
From a performance perspective, almost everyone felt miscast. Allari Naresh attempts his best to portray a serious character, but the writing offers him little to work with. Kamakshi Bhaskar just goes through the motions, while the other lesser characters are one-dimensional, except for Abhirami, who puts in a convincingly good performance.
Plus Points
Two interesting twists
Good interval setup
Minus Points
Confusing screenplay
Weak direction
Unimpressive music
Poor character development

12A Railway Colony is a psychological thriller with promise but limited payoff. Beyond two juicy twists, the film lacks any real emotional weight, logical connectivity, and gripping wallop in narrative.
Rating 2/5 For thriller buffs, it might seem half-cooked; for the others, an utterly forgettable watch.
