Kaantha Movie Premiere Review: Opening with evocative imagery and a circular storytelling technique that piques interest, Kaantha has the vibe of a well-made historical mystery. The first half proceeds slowly, but the intermission twist adds just enough suspense to maintain interest in the plot.
Good Visual Superiority:
The film’s outstanding quality is its remarkable photography. Each frame displays careful planning, including beautiful night settings, a genuine period mood, and warm, gloomy lighting. Excellent art direction, including well-made sets, props, antique cars, and meticulously created costumes, enhances this environment. The background score enhances the tension, particularly during high-intensity scenes, and the editing is mostly successful.
Weak second half:
The second half of Kaantha is where it begins to lose its power. Due to a prolonged “whodunit” structure, the story’s mystery becomes overly amplified. The underlying reason for the main conflict is not entirely persuasive, even if certain disclosures are timed well and several characters contribute appeal. The climax is consequently less emotionally developed and less powerful than it should be.

The drama is centered around its performances:
With skill and command, Dulquer Salmaan carries a number of scenes in an outstanding performance. Rana infuses vitality and substance into a character that injects life into the second half, while Bhagyashree excels in a well-written role. The supporting cast performs well, backed by excellent hair and makeup work that accentuates the era’s atmosphere.
Unbalanced Story but Technically Good Experience:
Although technically brilliant, Kaantha lacks narrative conviction and emotional connection. The film’s artistry may be better appreciated on streaming services, where its slower pace is more acceptable.
