Telangana Deputy CM Bhatti Advocates for State Autonomy in Education

Telangana Deputy CM: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka new UGC (University Grants Commission) guidelines. Recently, speaking at the National Convention on Higher Education organised in Thiruvananthapuram. Deputy CM said states providing funds to run universities was preventing them from appointing vice-chancellors and making admissions. He sarcastically added, “If this situation is allowed to continue, then the states would be confined to cutting ribbons at the inauguration of buildings.”


Importance Of State Autonomy

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka says. “States should build educational institutions and systems suitable for their people and social setups. There would not be many similarities between any two states.” He further added, “All states should emphatically convey their opinion on such an important priority subject without merely confining themselves to the discussions alone.” Deputy CM felt that “when states stand united with a common objective, the centre must listen.” He went on to reveal that states are not just administrative units but lifelines for the country’s progress.

Right To Choose the Right Path

Telangana government, led by Vikramarka, is ready to host the next conference in Hyderabad, emphasizing the need for states to develop their own action plans. “States must choose the right path, or face serious consequences,” he warned. He expressed concern over the centralization of appointing vice-chancellors and changes in eligibility criteria. Notable attendees included Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala Higher Education Minister R Bindu, Karnataka Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar, Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister TG Chezhian, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, and other prominent educationists. The convention highlighted the importance of state autonomy in educational matters.
