Modi-Putin Key Talks: The historic and most iconic palace in Delhi, which has a connection with Hyderabad, is going to be the prime location for the key talks of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vladimir Putin.  This building is known as Hyderabad House, which was once built by one of the richest kings in the world.  Today, it has transformed from a royal palace into one of India’s most important diplomatic centers. Putin is visiting India for two days, and the entire world is watching. During his visit, he will hold key discussions with PM Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. But why is this palace chosen for meetings with world leaders? The answer lies in its grand history.

The Hyderabad Link:

Hyderabad House was built by the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, once the richest man on earth. When the British shifted India’s capital from Calcutta to Delhi, princely states wanted their presence marked in the new capital. While many rulers requested land, the Nizam wanted a prime spot near today’s Rashtrapati Bhavan. The British did not approve that location, but granted him land along with four other princely states, Baroda, Patiala, Jaipur, and Bikaner, near the area now known as Rajpath.

The Nizam hired the famous architect Edwin Lutyens, the same man who designed Rashtrapati Bhavan. Built in the 1920s over 8.2 acres, the palace was shaped like a butterfly and became one of the grandest structures in Delhi. It had 36 rooms, six large bathrooms, courtyards, arches, fountains, and an exclusive women’s section. The construction cost was an enormous 200,000 pounds at that time, equivalent to around ₹170 crore today.

After Independence:

After Hyderabad joined the Indian Union in 1948, the palace eventually became government property. In 1974, the Ministry of External Affairs renovated it, turning it into India’s main venue for high-level diplomatic meetings. Over the years, leaders like Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Gordon Brown, and Putin have all been hosted here.

Today:

Hyderabad House has now evolved from a royal residence to a powerful symbol of India’s international diplomacy. During Putin’s current visit, this iconic palace will once again witness important discussions that could shape global politics.
