Why is Karnataka Bandh tomorrow? Complete Details

Karnataka Bandh: The state-wide bandh is going to be there tomorrow from 6 am to 6 pm. According to the sources, around 3000 to 3500 pro-Kannada organizations will lead the protest on Saturday, i.e. March 22nd.

What happened and why bandh tomorrow?

On February 21, a group of Marathi youths attacked bus conductor Mahadev near Sulebhavi-Balekundri in Belgau, prompting the call for a Karnataka bandh. Tensions reportedly increased when the conductor asked one of the passengers to speak Kannada.

Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha president and activist Vatal Nagaraj will spearhead the demonstration.

Demands by Vatal Nagaraj:

1. Ban on Maharashtra Ekikarana Samiti for anti-Kannada activities and harassing of Kannadigas.

2. Opposition to learning Hindi and its imposition in Karnataka.

3. Immediate implementation of the Kalasa Banduri and Mahadayi project and development of the Northern Karnataka region.

4. Opposition to the central government for not providing exact GST share as well as sufficient funds in the central budget for Karnataka.

According to the sources, this bandh has not implemented everything. All the schools, colleges, and cinema halls will be shutdown. Schools that are having exams will remain open.

Metro services will be operational for the public. Apart from this hospitals, medical services, and pharmacies will be open.

All the BMTC buses and KSRTC services are shut down from 6 am to 6 pm tomorrow. Following this Ola, Uber, and auto services are also shut down all over Bengaluru.

Karnataka Government Statement:

On Thursday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar declared that the state government would not support a bandh and that it would negotiate with pro-Kannada groups that have demanded a March 22 statewide shutdown.

Following this DK Shivakumar said, “It is not needed at this time. They should have spoken to the government about it. It will affect students. We have also planned to launch a month-long water conservation campaign along with the Cauvery aarti on March 22, which is World Water Day.”
