AP Introduces ATM Style Ration Cards; Here Are Features

ATM Style Ration Cards: The Andhra Pradesh government has announced that it will issue new ATM-sized ration cards from May. Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar shared key details about the new system. These cards will be more convenient to carry and will include QR codes for security. Families can update their details such as adding or removing members and requesting split cards.

E-KYC Completion Before Ration Card Issuance
The new ration cards will be issued only after completing the e-KYC process. The deadline for e-KYC is April 30. The government will then finalize the list of beneficiaries and start distributing the new cards. Minister Manohar emphasized that the current ration card details will remain unchanged, but the cards will be smaller in size.

Features of the New Ration Cards

Compact Design: ATM-sized for easy use
Enhanced Security: QR codes and other safety features
No Leader’s Photos: Unlike the previous government, the new cards will not have pictures of political figures
Family Updates: Options to add or remove members and apply for split cards

Deepam-2 Gas Cylinder Booking Begins
Alongside the ration card update, the minister announced that the second phase of the Deepam-2 gas cylinder booking has started. Oil companies reported that around two lakh new gas connections have been issued under this scheme. This initiative aims to help low-income families access cooking gas at subsidized rates.

The government is also ensuring timely payments to farmers for paddy procurement. During the Kharif season, over 35 lakh metric tonnes of paddy were purchased with ₹8,279 crores paid to farmers within 24 hours of procurement. The same process will continue in the Rabi season to support farmers.
Strict Action Against Ration Rice Smuggling
The Andhra Pradesh government is taking strong measures against the illegal transportation of ration rice. Minister Manohar stated that the PD Act now includes ration rice smuggling. He also accused the previous government of misusing ₹1,600 crores on MDUs and alleged it a major scam currently under investigation.
