On Wednesday, Donald Trump declared reciprocal tariffs on several nations. View the full list of reciprocal tariffs by nation. As per the list, there are several countries with high tariffs on goods, and some countries have discounts on their tariffs.
In the official announcement, Donald Trump said, “We subsidise a lot of countries and keep them going and keep them in business. Why are we doing this? I mean, at what point do we say you’ve got to work for yourselves? This is why we have the big deficits. This is why we have that amount of debt that’s been placed on our heads over the last number of years, and we’re really not taking it anymore.”
He added, “In the face of unrelenting economic warfare, the United States can no longer continue with a policy of unilateral economic surrender. We cannot pay the deficits of Canada, Mexico, and so many other countries. We used to do it. We can’t do it anymore. We take care of countries all over the world. We pay for their military. We pay for everything they have to pay for. And then when you want to cut back a little bit, they get upset that you’re not taking care of them any longer. But we have to take care of our people, and we’re going to take care of our people first. And I’m sorry to say that.”

A reciprocal tariff table that listed the tariffs imposed on more than 60 nations was also waived by the president. According to Donald Trump, virtually all commodities entering the US would be subject to a minimum 10% tariff, and all cars manufactured abroad would be subject to a 25% tariff.
As per the reports, the baseline implementation is going to be from April 2nd, 2025, at midnight ET. President Trump has signed the executive order regarding these tariffs. Several exceptions or implementations are phased in. As per the second proclamation, the previously announced auto tariffs (25% on foreign-made cars) were scheduled to go into effect on April 3, 2025.
