Telangana Declares Sunstroke State Disaster: Announces ₹4 Lakh Relief

Telangana Declares Sunstroke State Disaster: The Telangana government has formally declared heatwave and sunstroke. As a “State Specific Disaster”, a big step to deal with the effects of the hot weather. This has been done to give financial assistance to the victims’ families, accepting the gravity of heatwave deaths in the state.

₹4 Lakh Ex Gratia to Hit Families

Families of people who die due to heatwaves will now be given ₹4 lakh. As an ex gratia by the government as per the new Government Order (GO). The state earlier gave ₹50,000 help under the Apathbandhu scheme, which was not considered adequate in light of the growing heatwave death toll.

Heatwave Effect Across Telangana

Heatwaves have been a secret threat because they lack reporting and severity in stating their complete consequences. The worst affected among these are children, women, and the elderly population. As reported by the GO, 28 out of the total 33 districts of Telangana witnessed at least 15 days of severe heat. A clear sign of the state having a widespread danger of heatwaves.

Role of Authorities in Identifying Heatwave Fatalities

The process of determining heat deaths will be supervised by the District Collector. So that cases are diagnosed on the basis of exposure history and ruling out other causes of medical nature. The orderly process will enable the authorities to make an approximate assessment of heatwave victims. And offer relief to the bereaved families.

A Step Towards Better Disaster Management

With this new policy, Telangana becomes a part of the states that are positively trying to counter the lethal effects of heatwaves. By declaring heatwaves as a disaster and providing ex gratia compensation. The state is trying to lower financial costs on the affected families while promoting stronger heat protection measures.

As the heatwaves in India intensify, such a precautionary step by the government, like Telangana’s, can act as a model for increased disaster preparedness and relief in India.
