Authorities have intensified their actions concerning the Kancha Gachibowli land issue, particularly targeting the AI-generated fake campaign circulating online. They are preparing to take legal action against individuals who posted misleading photos and videos of deer, peacocks, and elephants. Using specialized software, officials are identifying such posts across social media platforms. The police have begun issuing notices to those responsible. While some individuals have already deleted the posts out of fear, others have left them untouched. The police are investigating all involved, regardless of age or gender. As part of this crackdown, they recently issued a notice to senior IAS officer and State Tourism Secretary Smita Sabharwal.
Smita Sabharwal Gets Notice:
Smita Sabharwal reposted an AI-generated image related to the Kancha Gachibowli land issue, which depicted peacocks and deer in front of bulldozers. The original post was shared on March 31 by the X (formerly Twitter) handle “Hi Hyderabad.” Despite holding key positions in the government, Sabharwal reshared the image, which carried the caption “Save HCU.”
This has sparked controversy, especially since the government maintains that the Kancha Gachibowli lands do not belong to the University of Hyderabad (HCU). Her repost has drawn criticism, with many questioning how a senior government official could share content perceived as anti-government propaganda. In response, the police have issued her a notice seeking clarification on the matter.

The AI-generated image in question shows numerous bulldozers in front of the Mushroom Rock inside the University of Hyderabad (HCU), with peacocks and deer placed in front of them in a style reminiscent of Studio Ghibli. Smita Sabharwal reposted this image, which the police later identified as fake. The Gachibowli police have since issued a notice to her under Section 179 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), regarding the spreading of misleading content.
