On March 7, TVK chief and actor Vijay Thalapathy organized an Iftar dinner for Muslim brothers in Chennai, Tamil Nadu . However, the event aroused strong anger among many Sunni Muslim groups. During this event, Maulana Shahbuddin Razvi Bareilly, president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, a religious organization in Uttar Pradesh, issued a fatwa against Vijay Thalapathy. It advised Muslims to stay away from Vijay and not to go to any events even if he is invited. It also said that he should not be invited to religious gatherings.
The hero was accused of doing anti-Islamic things. Especially in movies like Beast, he portrayed Muslims as terrorists. On the one hand, he portrayed them as terrorists in movies. They accused him of violating the sanctity of Ramadan. AIMJ President Maulana Shahbuddin Razvi Bareilly said that TVK chief Vijay had organized this program only for political purposes.
On the other hand, the Sunnat Jamaat has also filed an official complaint with the Chennai police, saying that Vijay’s program is insulting to Muslims and Islamic traditions. However, the Tamil Nadu Muslim League leader strongly condemned the issuance of the fatwa by Razvi. He said that Vijay had organized an Iftar dinner during the month of Ramzan and that he had also fasted like a Muslim to attend the dinner. However, he alleged that Vijay Razvi had made such defamatory comments with the encouragement of the coalition parties. He advised him to refrain from such remarks in the future.
