On March 7, TVK chief and actor Vijay Thalapathy organized an Iftar dinner for Muslim brothers in Chennai, Tamil Nadu . However, the event aroused strong anger among many Sunni Muslim groups. During this event, Maulana Shahbuddin Razvi Bareilly, president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, a religious organization in Uttar Pradesh, issued a fatwa against Vijay Thalapathy. It advised Muslims to stay away from Vijay and not to go to any events even if he is invited. It also said that he should not be invited to religious gatherings.

He said that Vijay had organized an Iftar dinner during the month of Ramzan and that he had also fasted like a Muslim to attend the dinner. However, he alleged that Vijay Razvi had made such defamatory comments with the encouragement of the coalition parties. He advised him to refrain from such remarks in the future.
