Pakistan’s Missile Test: Pakistan plans to conduct a missile test off the Karachi coast on April 24–25, as Indian agencies closely track the move following Tuesday’s terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. India responded sharply by suspending the Indus Water Treaty and shutting down the Attari check post.
Pakistan’s Missile Test In Karachi:
According to media sources, Pakistan has announced plans to conduct a surface-to-surface missile test off the Karachi coast within its Exclusive Economic Zone on April 24–25. Indian agencies are closely monitoring the developments. India has also issued a formal persona non grata notice to Pakistan’s military envoys and summoned Saad Ahmad Warraich, Pakistan’s top diplomat, to Delhi.
Five Retaliatory Measures That India Took Yesterday:
1. India will suspend the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty with immediate effect until Pakistan credibly and irreversibly renounces support for cross-border terrorism.
2. India will also close the Integrated Check Post at Attari immediately. Individuals who crossed with valid and official endorsements may return before May 1, 2025.
3. Under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES), India will no longer allow Pakistani nationals to enter. India considers all previously granted SVES visas to Pakistani citizens revoked. Any Pakistani currently in India on an SVES visa must leave the country within 48 hours.
4. Persona Non Grata are the Defense/Military, Naval, and Air Advisors at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. They can depart India in a week. The Indian High Commission in Islamabad will be the source of India’s defense, navy, and air advisors. These positions are considered revoked in their respective High Commissions. Additionally, five of the Service Advisors’ support workers will be removed from both High Commissions.
5. Through additional reductions, the high commissions’ overall strength will be lowered from the current 55 to 30 by May 1, 2025.
Pakistan’s Response to India:
To plan a suitable response to India’s decision to revoke diplomatic ties and suspend the Indus Water Treaty, Pakistan has convened a high-level security meeting. Citing what it calls the Pahalgam false flag operation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting of the National Security Committee to discuss India’s “irresponsible actions” in detail.
