Rain-Hit Farmers Compensation: Unseasonal rains have damaged thousands of hectares of crops in Andhra Pradesh. Farmers who were ready to harvest, suffered major losses as rains destroyed crops like paddy, banana, mango, maize and groundnut. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu assured full financial support. He said that compensation would be credited directly to farmers’ bank accounts by tomorrow evening.
As per the official assessment, 2,224 hectares of paddy and 128 hectares of horticulture crops like banana and mango were damaged. The Chief Minister reviewed the situation with officials. They presented detailed reports on crop loss, especially in the districts of Krishna, West Godavari and Guntur.
The CM ordered district collectors to begin paddy procurement immediately. He also instructed them to purchase discolored or rain-damaged paddy. Farmers had expressed concern that the damaged paddy would not be bought. CM Chandrababu gave clear instructions that the government will purchase all produce regardless of quality to avoid farmer losses.
Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy confirmed that procurement centers will be set up in affected areas. He also stated that farmers need not panic, as both dry and wet paddy will be accepted. Government agencies like Civil Supplies Corporation and Markfed will manage the process efficiently.
In addition to crop loss, some families lost members due to lightning strikes. The CM said those families will receive financial aid immediately. He emphasized that no delay will be tolerated in releasing funds or relief materials.
To ensure fast support, village-level committees are collecting data on affected farmers. The government is using real-time crop damage reporting tools to assess and respond quickly. The agricultural department has already mobilized field teams.
CM Chandrababu stressed that the welfare of farmers is his government’s highest priority. He stated that emergency funds have been released to help farmers recover losses and prepare for the next season.
He appealed to banks and insurance companies to speed up claim settlements. The CM also directed officials to conduct awareness campaigns about crop insurance benefits especially for small and marginal farmers.
