Congress MP and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor has hit back at US President Donald Trump for claiming that he was responsible for the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan . Tharoor, who criticized Trump’s behavior, said that this is not called mediation but rather a constructive role played by the US. US President Donald Trump tweeted on Saturday evening, May 10, that India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire with ‘US mediation’. Shortly after his tweet, the governments of the two countries officially announced the ceasefire agreement.

Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor , who has experience of serving as an ambassador to the United Nations, reacted to Trump’s comments. ‘I have never seen such behavior in international diplomacy. This is a very unfortunate thing,’ he said. Tharoor said that the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan have been posting their conversations and discussions with various heads of state on social media in recent days.

Shashi Tharoor Says

“To be clear, US counterpart Marco Rubio spoke to Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and then to the Pakistani Foreign Minister. These are the kinds of talks that are taking place during this three-four-day crisis. That is, this is not a request for mediation from India,” he explained. “What America did between the two countries was not mediation, it was a constructive role taken by Washington,” he said.

“It is not mediation. America played a constructive role. If it were not for America, another country would have done this. Jaishankar also spoke to the foreign ministers of countries like UAE, UK, France,” Tharoor countered. The fact is that at such times, other countries often talk on both sides. In which they inform each country about the other side, he said. Trump cannot take credit for this as mediation. Because India never asked for mediation, India will not accept foreign mediation in any way. It will not beg, We have the capacity to handle ourselves. I think India will never accept the idea,” Tharoor emphasized.

“India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate, comprehensive ceasefire, mediated by the United States. Congratulations to both countries for acting wisely. Thank you,” Trump posted on May 10. The next day, Trump posted another message, saying, “I am proud of the strong leadership of both countries. I am proud to have reached this peaceful resolution with the support of the United States.” He also indicated that he would do his part to resolve the Kashmir dispute.
