Global Outreach: Today, India launched a massive diplomatic campaign to send a strong message against terrorism to 33 nations following the Pahalgam tragedy. Seven delegations of lawmakers from multiple political parties will travel to various countries and the UN Security Council to demonstrate the nation’s unity and firm commitment to combating terrorism. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri briefed all seven delegations yesterday. All teams will be on their way by Sunday.
How Countries are Selected:
Mr. Misri explained the criteria for selecting the 33 countries during Tuesday’s briefing. BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, citing him, noted that about 15 of these countries are members of the UN Security Council, which includes five permanent and ten non-permanent members rotating every two years. She added that five more countries on the list are set to join the UNSC soon.
BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi Response:
Sarangi informed reporters that the outreach list also includes nations whose voices carry weight in global affairs. She is part of a parliamentary delegation, led by JDU’s Sanjay Kumar Jha, visiting Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore. The delegation to Japan will be the first to depart today as part of the global initiative. Sarangi highlighted that Pakistan will remain a rotating member of the UN Security Council for the next 17 months. ‘They will try to present their position and spread anti-India claims,’ she warned.
She emphasized the importance of India’s global outreach, stating, ‘Our government rightly decided that MPs from different parties should visit these countries together, explain India’s stance to their political and administrative leadership, and expose Pakistan’s strategy of promoting terrorism. This is our responsibility.’ She affirmed that the delegation aims to show the world that India stands united in its fight against terrorism.
The Global Outreach:
The outreach program follows Operation Sindoor, during which Indian forces launched strikes on terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Seven parliamentary delegations will lead the global campaign, headed by prominent leaders including Shashi Tharoor (Congress), Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda (BJP), Sanjay Kumar Jha (JDU), Supriya Sule (NCP), Shrikant Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena), and Kanimozhi (DMK).
