Revanth Reddy Meets PM Modi: Request Support for Ring Road & Metro Expansion

Revanth Reddy Meets PM Modi: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to request his sanction for certain state-level development projects. His primary requests were to initiate finance for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II and Cabinet approval for the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project, both of which are extremely important to improve connectivity and economic growth.

Hyderabad Metro Network Expansion

The second phase of Hyderabad Metro Rail project will introduce 76.4 km of the city’s transport system in several corridors, additional to the existing 69 km operating corridors. The cost estimate has been ₹24,269 crore with the Union government (18%), the Telangana government (30%), and debt (48%). Reddy pointed out that quick approvals were necessary with the argument that no metro expansion had been carried out in a decade.

Strengthening Road Network

The second major project Reddy mentioned is the Regional Ring Road (RRR). The northern section, covering major locations such as Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Jagdevpur, and Bhongir, already had the land acquisition process initiated, and Telangana is taking up 50% of the development expenditure. Reddy emphasized the implementation of northern and southern corridors at the same time to avoid money overruns and timely completion of works.

More Infrastructure and Economic Growth

Besides roads and metro plans, Reddy promoted the setting up of a Regional Ring Railway for smooth movement of goods and boosting industrial activity. He also promoted Telangana’s semiconductor sector with the Centre’s encouragement to make the state a sustainable hub under India’s Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to attract foreign investment.

Telangana’s Increasing Contribution to Defence Production

Reddy urged the central government to identify Hyderabad’s defence manufacturing potential by officially announcing Hyderabad-Bangalore Defence Corridor. Given Hyderabad’s strong ecosystem of public sector undertakings and foreign defence companies, he suggested policy priority and suggested locating DefExpo in Hyderabad with the vision to establish Hyderabad as a hub in this region.
