Rajya Sabha MPs: The Rajya Sabha administration will now provide its members with the latest technology to help them perform their duties more efficiently. Members will receive wearable devices, smart TVs, smart projectors, and other advanced gadgets as part of the tech upgrade.
The “Scheme of Financial Entitlement of Members of Rajya Sabha for Computer Equipment” approved this decision. Under the Provision of Computer Equipment (Members of Rajya Sabha and Officers) Rules, 2008, the scheme equips MPs with the necessary devices to support their legislative responsibilities. Officials held the meeting regarding this initiative on May 23 of this year.
New Scheme Updates:
The Members will have access to the computer equipment through a financial entitlement structure. A Member may purchase computer hardware and software under the Scheme with the following financial entitlement:
1. A salary of Rs 2,00,000 if nominated or elected to the Rajya Sabha for a term longer than three years.
2. If elected or nominated to the Rajya Sabha in a bye election on a casual vacancy for three years or less, the reward would be Rs 1,50,000.
3. A Member would be eligible for an additional Rs 1,00,000 after serving three years of their term, provided that they have at least six months remaining in their term.
A desktop computer, a laptop, a pen drive, a printer, a scanner, a UPS, and a smartphone are already provided to Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament. More recent devices have now been added to this list:

2. Tablets, Computers, and Keyboards
3. Smart watches and Smart Speakers

It is said that the members have to submit the original bills of purchase to claim reimbursement.
