The much-anticipated Indore Metro was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 31 (Saturday), a day that is particularly significant for Malwa because it commemorates Devi Ahilyabai Holkar’s 300th birthday.

An important milestone for the city of Indore was reached when the metro started its inaugural run with this symbolic gesture. The Prime Minister, who is now in Bhopal, virtually inaugurated the Super Priority Corridor of the Metro, the city’s newest infrastructure. Women in the city graced the first metro trip in Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar’s homeland. The Gandhinagar Metro Station in Indore would be the starting point for the service.

While attending the women’s conference at Jamboree Ground in Bhopal on Saturday, Prime Minister Modi virtually opened the Datia and Satna airports in addition to the Indore Metro. Governor Mangubhai Patel and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav were also present during the historic opening.
