He emphasized that India is a central contributor to energy security, technological advancement, and critical minerals, and made it clear that having India at the summit was important.
Some political opponents of Carney in Canada criticized him for inviting Modi, especially in light of ongoing tensions surrounding the 2023 murder of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Carney responded that there has to be a few countries at the table for a global conversation regarding global economy and security.
