While addressing a public rally in Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and his party. While addressing the gathering before the elections, PM Modi blamed opposition leaders of taking B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy politically while neglecting to honor his principles sincerely. PM Modi’s dig at Lalu in Bihar is trending all over for his comments.
During his speech, PM Modi said, “They disown Babasaheb, I pay obeisance to him from heart.” The Prime Minister’s remark was specifically directed towards Lalu Prasad Yadav and the RJD. Indicating opposition parties would mention the name of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in speeches and party manifestos but neither lived up nor worked according to the vision of the father of the Indian Constitution. Modi blamed them for practicing caste politics but not bringing about much social justice.
Placing the BJP in Ambedkar’s True Heirs Position
PM Modi asserted the BJP’s commitment to the philosophy of Dr. Ambedkar. He referred to efforts such as the construction of Ambedkar memorial. And the creation of Panch Teerth — five important places connected with Ambedkar’s life. “Babasaheb is not a vote bank for us; he is a guiding light,” Modi asserted, underlining that his government has empowered backward classes and Dalits by means of different welfare programs.
Political Strategy in Bihar
The remark also aligns with the overall strategy of the BJP in Bihar, where caste equations determine the vote. By positioning himself within Ambedkar’s legacy, Modi is seeking to bring Dalit and backward caste voters firmly in his party’s camp, a traditional bastion of the RJD and their allies. The Prime Minister also repeated that the development agenda of his party is not caste-based but inclusive.
