Telangana to Launch ₹5,930 Crore TG-SWAST Project

TG-SWAST Project: A major push to improve Telangana’s medical and healthcare services throughout the state has been signaled by the Telangana government’s approval of a significant health infrastructure project.

The Cabinet approved the ₹5,930 crore “Telangana Strategic Vision for Achieving Sustainable Transformation in Healthcare (TG-SWAST)” project on Thursday, marking a major milestone. The World Bank will provide a loan of ₹4,150 crore (70%) of this, with the state contributing the remaining ₹1,780 crore (30%).

The ambitious project’s main objectives are to improve healthcare for women and the elderly, control non-communicable illnesses, increase digital health services, upgrade medical colleges, improve government hospital sanitation, and create new trauma care facilities.

After five years, the six-year World Bank loan will be paid back in installments at an interest rate of 4.75% until 2060. The state government will set up a specialized Project Management Unit (PMU) to supervise the initiative’s implementation and advancement to guarantee efficient execution.

The suggestions were well received by the Union Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), which on February 24 sent them to the World Bank for approval. By December of this year or January of next year, the first financial allocation is expected to be made available. An important turning point in Telangana’s efforts to improve its healthcare system and guarantee fair, high-quality healthcare for all societal segments is the TG-SWAST initiative.
