Former Cricketer Azharuddin Takes Oath as Telangana Minister

Azharuddin: Telangana Former Cricketer Azharuddin was sworn in as a Telangana minister. Governor Jishnu Dev Verma administered the oath to him. CM Revanth Reddy and ministers participated in the program. Azharuddin was born on February 8, 1963 in Hyderabad. He studied at All Saints High School in Abids. He studied B. Com at Nizam’s College. Inspired by his uncle Zainulabuddin, he took steps towards cricket. He made his debut in international cricket in 1984. Azharuddin gained special recognition as a cricketer. After retirement from cricket, he entered politics. He joined the Congress Party on February 19, 2009. In the same year, he won as an MP from the Moradabad seat in UP. Azharuddin was appointed as the TPCC working president in 2018.

Key decision on Azhar’s ministerial post:
The AICC has been working on expanding the cabinet for the past few days. While there are currently 15 people in the state cabinet, there is a possibility of giving ministerial posts to three more. However, it seems that it has been decided to give a ministerial post only to Azharuddin, a former cricketer from the Muslim minority community who was recently elected as an MLC. Whenever the cabinet was formed in the state, the Muslim minority had a ministerial post. Although many Muslim minorities contested elections on behalf of the Congress party, they did not win anywhere this time. Due to this, it was not possible to provide a chance to that community in the cabinet.

The Congress high command is planning to somehow provide a place in the cabinet for the Muslim minority. Azharuddin contested from the Jubilee Hills assembly seat and lost. He is ready to contest in the recent Jubilee Hills by-election. However, the Congress high command has decided to give him the post of MLC.

Discussion in AICC on expansion of the cabinet:
The Congress party has selected Azharuddin and Telangana Jana Samiti president Kodandaram as MLCs under the Governor’s quota. However, the Governor has not yet approved the appointment of both of them. It is reported that the AICC has approved Azharuddin’s swearing in as a minister even though the MLC appointment process is not complete. It seems that there has been extensive discussion in the AICC over the last two days on the expansion of the cabinet.

For the first time, 12 ministers were sworn in along with the Chief Minister. In the recent cabinet expansion, three ministers were sworn in. Currently, there is a possibility of giving ministerial posts to three more, so the Congress high command has given a chance to the Muslim minority. If Azharuddin does not get a chance in the Governor’s quota, some MLC seats will soon fall vacant. Overall, Telangana politics has become interesting as the Jubilee Hills by-election approaches. It is exciting to see how people are going to react with their votes after this huge change in the ministerial posts.
