Karnataka New Chief Minister: Iqbal Hussain, a Ramanagara MLA, reaffirmed his belief that DK Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister, will “200 per cent” become Karnataka’s next chief minister. The comments were made on Tuesday by Hussain, one of the MLAs who traveled to New Delhi to meet with senior Congress leaders to advocate for Shivakumar’s promotion. On Tuesday, however, the MLAs said that the high command will make a final decision over the proposal to choose DK Shivakumar as the next chief minister.

Congress Members’ Response to the New CM:

“I constantly adhere to that assertion… 200% of the time, he will take over as chief minister. Hussain was quoted by the media as saying, “The high command will decide.” The MLA continued, echoing Shivakumar’s previous remarks. “As our leader said, the transfer of power is a secret deal among five to six party leaders, and those five to six people will decide.”

The comments coincide with persistent rumors within the party regarding a potential power-sharing arrangement between Shivakumar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The leadership of Congress, however, has consistently denied any such arrangement.

New CM Issue: End of Confusion?

Some Congress MLAs stated that they had asked the high command to clear up the confusion around the chief ministerial problem as soon as possible, while others stated that they also wanted more opportunity for fresh or youthful faces in the impending cabinet reorganization.

After the administration finished half of its five-year term on November 20, rumors of a potential leadership transition have intensified the internal power struggle within the ruling party. Reports about a purported power-sharing arrangement reached in 2023 between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar are the source of the controversy.

Six MLAs who support Shivakumar traveled to New Delhi on Sunday night to meet with senior leaders, and a few more are anticipated to follow, according to party sources. Last week, approximately 10 MLAs had already met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in this regard.

High Command Decision on New CM: 

Magadi MLA HC Balakrishna underlined that the final decision on the next chief minister resides completely with the party high command, but asked for an early resolution to “end the prevailing uncertainty.” According to Maddur MLA K M Uday, lawmakers also asked the high command to provide young people and newcomers opportunities during the cabinet upheaval, and they were informed that this would be taken into consideration. He stated that everyone will follow the party leadership’s decision about the call for Shivakumar to be the chief minister.

Uday stated that a decision is anticipated shortly after certain senior MLAs requested the high command to clear up the confusion around the leadership shift. In response to earlier rumors that lawmakers who backed him had traveled to Delhi to demand his promotion to chief minister, Shivakumar claimed he was not aware of the situation and speculated that they might be looking for ministerial jobs. “I have not contacted or conversed with any of them. I don’t want to know why they left. “I don’t have to,” he remarked.
