Maithili Thakur: The well-known Maithili and Bhojpuri folk singer Maithili Thakur has entered politics by running as a BJP candidate in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. One of the youngest candidates on the party’s list, Thakur was born on July 25, 2000, and he is running from the Darbhanga district’s Alinagar constituency. In north Bihar, her candidacy is perceived as a calculated attempt to bolster the BJP’s young and cultural appeal.

Maithili Thakur, who is from Benipatti in the Madhubani district, around 35 kilometers from Alinagar, became well-known both domestically and abroad for her folk music performances with her brothers, Rishav and Ayachi Thakur. She has received honors, including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from the Sangeet Natak Akademi, for conserving Bihar’s rich Maithili and Bhojpuri musical traditions.
She joined in BJP just two days before the nominations. Her first response was, “Whatever job the party gives me, I’ll do it with full dedication.” The BJP’s campaign in the area has been boosted by her arrival, and the party hopes to use her cultural appeal to draw in younger voters.
