Maithili Thakur: The well-known Maithili and Bhojpuri folk singer Maithili Thakur has entered politics by running as a BJP candidate in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. One of the youngest candidates on the party’s list, Thakur was born on July 25, 2000, and he is running from the Darbhanga district’s Alinagar constituency. In north Bihar, her candidacy is perceived as a calculated attempt to bolster the BJP’s young and cultural appeal.

Folk Singer to State Assembly Candidate:
Maithili Thakur, who is from Benipatti in the Madhubani district, around 35 kilometers from Alinagar, became well-known both domestically and abroad for her folk music performances with her brothers, Rishav and Ayachi Thakur. She has received honors, including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from the Sangeet Natak Akademi, for conserving Bihar’s rich Maithili and Bhojpuri musical traditions.

She joined in BJP just two days before the nominations. Her first response was, “Whatever job the party gives me, I’ll do it with full dedication.” The BJP’s campaign in the area has been boosted by her arrival, and the party hopes to use her cultural appeal to draw in younger voters.

Alinagar Constituency: Maithili Thakur Vs Binod Mishra
In the elections, Maithili Thakur faced Binod Mishra, who is from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), one of the prominent leaders from the same constituency. As Mishr, who has strong connections at the grassroots level and focuses on employment, rural development, and also on welfare programs. Maithili Thakur has used her influence, celebrity status, and cultural identity and attract the youth in the local constituency.

Maithili Thakur completed her early education in her hometown in the Madhubani district of Bihar. Her family relocated to Delhi in order to give her greater educational and cultural chances after realizing how talented she was as a singer.

She finished her high school studies at Bal Bhavan International School, a CBSE-affiliated institution in Dwarka, Delhi. She joined the esteemed University of Delhi constituent college, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (ARSD College), to pursue her higher studies.
