AP Rajya Sabha Seat Likely for BJP: A major political decision has been made in Andhra Pradesh. The vacant Rajya Sabha seat from the state is expected to go to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This decision came after a meeting between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.
AP Rajya Sabha Seat Likely for BJP:
The vacancy arose after YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Vijayasai Reddy resigned from his Rajya Sabha position. His resignation led to discussions within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) about which party should get the seat. After several rounds of talks, TDP (Telugu Desam Party) and Jana Sena agreed to give the seat to BJP as part of coalition understanding.
Reports suggest that BJP is considering sending K. Annamalai, a Tamil Nadu leader and former IPS officer, to Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh. Though he is from Tamil Nadu, the party sees this as a strategic move to strengthen its presence in the southern states, especially with upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu. This has sparked discussions with people calling him a “Telugu Thambi” (younger brother) in a humorous way.
Annamalai is not the only name in the race. Former Union Minister Smriti Irani is also being considered. BJP may use the Rajya Sabha route to increase women’s representation and strengthen its stance against political rivals like Sonia Gandhi.
The Election Commission of India has already released the schedule for this by-election. Nominations must be filed by April 29, and the election will be held on May 9. However, due to the NDA coalition’s strength in Andhra Pradesh, the BJP candidate is likely to be elected unopposed.
This Rajya Sabha election is the fourth such by-election after the NDA formed the government in Andhra Pradesh. It reflects the growing political alignment between TDP, Jana Sena, and BJP, and the efforts to shape future national strategies.
In the coming week, clarity is expected on the final BJP candidate. All eyes are now on who will officially enter Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh – will it be Annamalai or someone else?
